THE ORGANISATION

The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is the voice of the construction sector in Ireland.  It represents 1,350 employers and comprises 33 constituent Associations, representing various sectors of the industry.  It operates 13 Branches around the country and provides a wide range of advisory and advocacy services through a team of dedicated professionals.  The CIF supports the growth and development of large, small and medium sized construction companies through understanding its members’ challenges and opportunities and responding proactively to their needs.

The CIF now wishes to recruit a Director of Health & Safety who will work closely with the relevant committees and stakeholders to drive best practice from an advisory and advocacy perspective. In addition, the Director of Health & Safety will work with other Directorates in ensuring that the industry continues to lead on construction safety standards while liaising with government departments and regulatory agencies.


THE ROLE

Based in Dublin, reporting to the Director General (DG) of the CIF, The Director of Health & Safety will lead a dedicated team of professionals to enhance the interests of the members of the industry across, Government, national and international best practice, and provide direction in safety services/ systems and training.

As a member of the Executive Team, the Director of Health & Safety will participate across the leadership team to ensure that the CIF achieves its business objectives both internally and externally, building the organisation’s impact and reputation and ensuring its future success.

THE PERSON

This is a senior post which requires an outstanding individual with a proven track record of people, commercial and stakeholder leadership in a similar industry, member based or professional services organisation.

Role Responsibilities:

• Work with member committees and other Directors to devise and advocate CIF policy on health & safety and safety systems.

• Provide expertise and advice to members on Health & Safety and environmental requirements and programmes to ensure compliance and safe practices.

• Remain informed in relevant legislation, upcoming changes and the likely effect on the industry and our members.

• Monitor industry trends and be prepared to consult and advise members on impact and solutions.

• Design and develop safety measures using data trends when necessary.

• Provide direction and leadership in formulating strategies for innovative and comprehensive safety training.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives.

• Be accountable for budget planning and delivery, partnering with other institutions and pursuing opportunities for National and EU funded training/ education programs.

• Utilise technology to optimise efficiency and cost savings.

The appointed person will:

• Have a third level qualification in health & safety, safety/environmental management, construction studies or a related discipline.

• Demonstrate the capability to develop and deliver clearly defined plans and initiatives.

• Validated HSE leadership experience.

• Ability to develop and implement strategies for sustainable and scalable business processes and programs.

• Demonstrate a track record of achievement in a similar multidisciplinary role.

• Be an effective leader across all stakeholder groups.

• Demonstrate and effective communication and relationship building style across internal and external stakeholder groups with an ability to influence senior leaders and collaborators.

• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
