THE ORGANISATION:

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) is the national statutory body reporting to the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, with responsibility for ensuring the safety and health of the 2.1 million people currently at work in Ireland. It is also the national competent authority for chemicals under REACH and provides the national accreditation service.

Employing over 170 multidisciplinary professional and administrative staff , the HSA has the challenging role of monitoring and enforcing new and existing safety legislation; promoting education, training and research into safety and health matters; offering expert advice to employers and employees and bringing proposals to Government for implementing best safety and health practices. It is Ireland’s representative for Occupational Safety & Health, Chemicals and Accreditation at European level.

THE ROLE:

Owing to the imminent retirement of the incumbent, the Board of the Health and Safety Authority is seeking to recruit a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to take up this position with effect from July 2018.

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will have overall responsibility for the management of the HSA. Specifically s/he will be responsible for implementing Board policies, co-ordinating and directing the senior management team to achieve the HSA’s Strategic Plan 2019-2021 and to deliver on its annual programme of work.

The CEO will also be responsible for building and maintaining effective external relationships with the social partners and the wider community in Ireland. S/he will bring personal energy and commitment to the delivery of occupational safety, health and welfare, chemical safety and accreditation nationally.

This is a senior leadership post of national significance which requires an outstanding individual with a proven track record of motivation and delivery at senior level in a multi-functional professional organisation. This experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector.

Remuneration for this role will be in line with public sector policy and will reflect the seniority of the post.
