The mandate of The Irish Farmers Journal is to provide the best possible technical support, market information and news to the agricultural sector and related areas. The Board and CEO of The Agricultural Trust, along with the Editor of the Irish Farmers Journal set the editorial ethos and policy for the publication. Through print media and online channels, the Irish Farmers Journal strives to deliver distinctive, high-quality information and content which benefits farmers, farming families and rural communities across Ireland.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the CEO of The Agricultural Trust, the Editor will bring vision, strategic leadership and effective management across all elements of the editorial function. Leading a team of talented journalists and specialists, the appointed person will ensure that the Irish Farmers Journal fulfils its mandate and maintains its position as the leading publication for the Irish farming sector. The Editor will be responsible for deepening audience engagement through continued excellence in journalism, the use of enhanced digital formats as well as targeted innovation that aligns with the evolving requirements of the farming sector and the digital media needs of consumers.


THE PERSON

This position requires an inspirational leader with a successful track record of delivery in a relevant area. The appointed person will have the capacity and commitment to build on the Irish Farmers Journal’s achievements to date, working with the organisation, the Board and other key stakeholders to deliver discernible results. The appointed person will demonstrate an insightful understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the farming sector, together with a comprehensive knowledge of EU agriculture and food policy. A relevant third-level qualification is required, underpinned by a deep understanding of the media industry and related technology trends. Exceptional stakeholder management and leadership abilities are essential, in addition to exemplary analytical and interpersonal skills.
