THE ORGANISATION

The Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association (IPHA) stands for innovation in medicines. We represent the inventors of medicines to prevent, treat and, sometimes, cure diseases. Through science, we extend how long people live and how well they can live. Because many medicines are made at sites around the country, we have a positive impact on economic life through jobs and investments. Helping to give people faster access to our medicines means, together, we can raise standards of care. As part of our ongoing development, IPHA is now seeking to attract a highly effective Director of Communications and Advocacy to protect and enhance the industry’s reputation and help optimise the policy environment in Ireland, and our contribution to European policy, for the discovery, development and adoption of innovative medicines.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Communications and Advocacy is responsible for proposing and delivering the strategic objectives of the Association in relation to communications, advocacy, reputation enhancement and influencing the environment within which IPHA members operate. He/she will bring leadership and effective personal and organisational Communications and Advocacy to the role.  He/she will play a significant part in representing the Association and its members’ interests.

THE PERSON

The Director, Communications and Advocacy will have creative, strategic and operational capabilities, organising a compelling industry-wide story and winning acceptance for public policies that advance the cause of medicines innovation. S/he will have the desire to break new ground and to work seamlessly with colleagues and within wider networks in setting and achieving shared goals.

As the public face of the organisation you will have previous on-air experience, or equivalent,  as a media spokesperson for a high-profile organisation.

You will possess high levels of invention, be delivery and deadline focused, in addition to having strong environmental awareness, structure and discipline.

You will have a track record of narrative development and public policy advocacy for a trade association, relevant commercial operation or a not-for-profit organisation.

In addition to a relevant third-level qualification (Masters level desirable) you will possess expert knowledge to integrate and oversee the use of social media platforms, with an ability to create and execute paid and organic media campaigns across IPHA communications and advocacy.

Further details on this significant opportunity, including remuneration, duties and responsibilities are available upon request.
