The Health and Safety Authority has a wide and varied regulatory mandate which includes acting as the national body with responsibility for occupational health and safety, market surveillance of industrial products and chemicals and acting as the national accreditation body for Ireland through the Irish National Accreditation Board.

Having recently appointed its new Chief Executive Officer, the Authority is at a pivotal time in its development as it implements an ambitious Strategy Statement and Programme of Work designed to respond to emerging risks, evolving workplaces, and higher expectations from workers, employers and the public. In order to support its growth & transformation agenda the Authority is seeking a dynamic, committed and experienced person to lead its Occupational Safety Division.

The Occupational Safety Division is central to delivering the HSA’s mission, it leads on workplace inspection and enforcement, develops innovative approaches to risk management, and works closely with stakeholders to ensure that those at work take responsibility for occupational safety and health.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, based either in HSA HQ in Dublin or one of its seven regional offices, the person appointed will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of workplace safety, health and welfare within the Division. This is a senior management post which requires an individual with an extensive track record of leading and motivating a large multi-functional team to achieve high levels of workplace inspection, enforcement and policy implementation.

THE PERSON

The appointed person will possess highly developed change management and communication skills together with the personal energy and commitment to improve workplace safety and health in Ireland. Relevant experience may be derived from either the public or private sector.
